The Diamond Belle Ranch
by David Sweet
Time slows as you walk
The gentle, grassy slopes
Of the Diamond Belle.
You’ve made it to the top!
Breathtaking, views,
Excitement, and joy
Pour in from all sides.
The splendor of the
Okanogan highlands:
Mt. Bonaparte, National
Forests, and meadows
With aspen groves
As far as you can see.
Below to the west,
Guarded by a long ago
Abandoned homestead,
Walker Lake is crowned
With towering fir and
Western larch.
Nature is alive everywhere.
The birds are obvious.
The rest is a feeling;
Pouring in, surrounding,
Comforting, nurturing.
“Spirit” Backstory…
The poem “Spirit” is an attempt to explain the magic of the land called The Diamond Belle Ranch, located 2.5 miles north of Wauconda, Wa. There are places on earth that are blessed with energy felt by those looking. Some call them vortexes, others may call them energy centers, still others may compare the feeling to another place of profound energy or uplifting they have experienced before.
As example, a fisherman once came off the lake after a successful day of catch and release, turned to the caretaker and said, “This place is not about the fishing.” Another person who claimed to be interested in purchasing all the land, lodge and lake exited his vehicle with these first words, “This place is protected.”
There are many stories, all different, all about what is felt and what is drawn out, experienced. This land does protect itself. Could it be to continue blessing those who visit with goodness suited for each at that time?
How is it that this place
So opens the heart?
How gently the spirit
Attaches and soothes…
How does it succeed in
Calling forth such pure
Goodness?
Eloquent and with grace,
She extends to all who
Choose to join her:
The quietness of her power—
The feeling of large and free,
And the magic of your being
Dance in a waltz of great
Celebration.
There is no charge,
Nothing to prove;
She gives freely.
Take as long as you want
To savor and rejoice.
Congratulations,
You’ve found it.
