David Sweet and I have been friends and business partners since the late 1970’s. During that time, we have been involved in three major real estate development projects. David has been responsible for land acquisition and disposition as well as partnership business operations. My responsibilities have centered on land use design and approvals. Together, we have taken our projects from concepts all the way through financing, development and marketing.
Before partnering with David, I knew him as a co-owner of Sundown Land Brokers, a prominent real estate brokerage firm in Tacoma, Washington that dealt with properties throughout western and eastern Washington. At Sundown, David ran the business. Additionally, he marketed his client’s properties personally and with the assistance of real estate agents employed by Sundown under his professional supervision. There are some certainties in life and many unknowns. The unknowns pop up when one travels down a road not traveled before. The times when an unknown turns into certainty and in this case, a pleasantry, are true rays of sunshine.
I have known you for some time. Our paths have crossed from professionally to socially. Rarely do I stop my routine long enough to allow myself to reflect on those times that give one memories of both pleasant times and solid performance. I believe both those words define you.
As you know, our relationship began in and around land development. You were the developer and me being the rule setter/reviewer. You proved from the get-go that you were a person of your word. Not one to get run over without a stand, but one that adhered to a result and performed as one could only hope one should do. Your reputation was and is solid, professional and reasonable. Your products were a pleasant statement of how it could and can be. I applaud you for that.
I since moved on to the others side of development and one that represents developers on issues during the process. Although I personally have not performed those duties for you, I work with those who do. That which was said above continues to be the norm for your performance now. Again, I applaud you for that.
I have also learned of your other talents from Poetry to linking life’s unknowns with a meaning of greater importance, thus helping those in need of guidance. Your poetry is like no other I have come across and your insight into life is so fresh and unlike the drab ways so many find to grab onto it.
I liken you to one of my favorite says that is by Alfred Einstein:
