Here I am at the “Villa Plaza”, the original shopping mall in Lakewood, Wa.
There is no happy face here. Clearly caught up in the sound, fury and excitement of the day, I had minutes before ventured out of the asphalt parking area my dad had defined and instructed I stay within. As I sped out of the designated area, justified by what I knew was the top speed run of the day, my concentration was jolted by a large black mass whizzing just past me to the rear. The math is easy. I came within inches and micro seconds of being killed. My parents, brother, sister and neighbor boy had watched from a distance with no way to judge the closeness or foretell the outcome as the two vehicles converged at right angles…
Spared, shaken and grateful.
