I built this when I was 12-13 years old at a time when the go kart craze was starting and at a time when money and parts were not too plentiful. The clutch barely worked and the carburetor always seemed to have problems of one sort or the other. I would take it to the local grade school (Park Avenue in Tacoma) and run it on the asphalt behind the school. Luckily we lived a short block away, so pushing home (a common occurrence) was not so bad.
At the same time (Was it fate they always seemed to be there at the same time?) the high school seniors down a couple of blocks had built their go kart with an engine that roared, huge rear, super-traction tires, and it screamed. While they’d be running up and down the dirt soccer field throwing up gigantic rooster tails and echoing off the building, I’d be trying to coax a single run getting a few more miles per hour out of a slipping clutch and sputtering engine…
THIS WAS NOT FAIR!
